What to Know About National Medical Coder Day

ICD-10 – the 10th edition of the International Classification of Diseases, designed by the World Health Organization – is a medical coding system that allows for greater specificity and detail in describing a patient’s diagnosis and in classifying inpatient and outpatient procedures so reimbursement can better reflect the intensity of the patient’s conditions and diagnostic needs. Healthcare professionals use it today to perform coding.
