Posted Aug 17, 2026

Healthfirst is updating the logic used to route Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) transactions.

A printable PDF is available here.

As part of Healthfirst’s ongoing efforts to improve the accuracy and consistency of Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) delivery, Healthfirst will be updating the logic used to route ERA transactions.

ERAs will be mapped using the following hierarchy:

  1. Billing NPI (Primary)
  2. Tax Identification Number (Secondary)
  3. Rendering Provider NPI (Tertiary)

This logic is expected to impact ERA distribution beginning September 21, 2026.

Provider Action Required

To ensure uninterrupted receipt of your ERAs, all providers should verify that:

  • Your ERA enrollment information is current and accurate
  • A valid Billing NPI is associated with your enrollment and payer enrollment records
  • Any recent changes to your Billing NPI or organizational information have been updated with your
clearinghouse and/or ERA vendor, as applicable

Providers without an updated and valid NPI on file may experience delays or misrouting of ERA transactions after the effective date.

Healthfirst’s EFT/ERA program is a convenient service for quick and automatic reimbursement of Healthfirst claims. EFT is the direct electronic deposit of claim reimbursements into your bank account, and ERA is the statement that allows you to reconcile these reimbursements to your member accounts.
